Bankruptcy Petitions Increase by 35% in South Central Texas
Compared to September of last year, the number of personal bankruptcy reorganization petitions increased by 35% in South Central Texas this year.
This week, The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas in San Antonio reported that 280 Chapter 13 bankruptcies were filed this past month. Last year during the same time frame 208 people filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy and in the month of August, there were 222 filers
In September, there were a total of 453 bankruptcy filings, which shows an increase of 12% compared to one year ago when there were only 403 cases. In August, this area of Texas recorded 440 cases.
However, the number ofChapter 7 liquidation cases decreased to 164 in September compared to 189 just a year ago. In August, 211 Chapter 7 liquidation cases were filed.
