Blockbuster to be Purchased by Dish Network

Good news for Blockbuster fans: the company is being bought out by Dish Network. 

Last week a bankruptcy judge approved the $320 million bid to buy out Blockbuster Inc. However, what Dish Network plans to do with the failing company has yet to be discussed. Although it has 14 million subscribers, Dish Network is not immune from the increasing competition from new delivery platforms. 

Tom Cullen, executive vice president for Dish Network, issued a statement, "With its more than 1,700 store locations, a highly recognizable brand and multiple methods of delivery, Blockbuster will complement our existing video offerings while presenting cross-marketing and service extension opportunities for Dish Network." 

While the winning bid price might seem high, Dish beat out several competitors including famed investor Carl Icahn.
