The Bankruptcy Trustee and Your Case

Have you recently filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy? If so, you will soon be assigned a bankruptcy trustee to oversee your case. This person will be responsible not only for reviewing your bankruptcy documents, but for collecting your monthly payments as well.

A trustee is an individual that has been appointed by the Department of Justice to oversee bankruptcy cases just like yours. They will first determine whether you meet the requirements for bankruptcy and will then report to the judge as to whether your case should be approved. If your case does meet state and federal requirements, you will make your monthly payments to the trustee. This person will then send those payments to the creditors listed in your bankruptcy documents until the end of your bankruptcy term.

Depending on the type of bankruptcy you file under, the trustee may be given additional responsibilities as well. To learn more about the role a bankruptcy trustee will play in your case, contact a San Antonio Chapter 13 attorney from our law office now. We can provide you with information and resources so you are prepared throughout the bankruptcy process.
