Two States Unite to Combat Foreclosure
The attorney generals of two states hit the hardest by foreclosures have decided to band together to help homeowners. Both California and Nevada have been hit especially hard by the foreclosure crisis over the past few years. Based on rising rates of foreclosure, the attorney generals have reason to worry about the financial state of homeowners that are unable to pay their bills.
By forming a joint investigation, these legal leaders hope to figure out a way to prevent more people from losing their homes next year. They believe that one cause of high foreclosures that needs to be addressed is possible fraud.
In order to thoroughly investigate the mortgage providers that may be engaging in fraudulent activity, the states will share information, such as subpoenaed information and witnesses, the delve deeper into the problem areas. With millions of pages to review, however, the process is certainly not going to be a fast or easy one.
