Completing Pre-Bankruptcy Counseling

If you have plans to file for Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you will need to sign up for a pre-bankruptcy counseling session in order to qualify. This is a quick and easy session that will only take a few hours of your day. Each session usually lasts between 60 to 90 minutes and can often be conducted over the phone. Before your session starts, you are entitled to know how much the session will cost. If you cannot afford the cost of pre-bankruptcy counseling, request a fee waiver from the counseling agency.

At the end of your counseling session, make sure that you walk away with proof of completion. This is usually a certificate that is printed so you can include it when filing your bankruptcy paperwork. Also, be sure to make sure that the credit counseling agency that you use has been approved by the judicial district in which you wish to file for bankruptcy. If you have questions about the requirements or terms of pre-bankruptcy counseling in Texas, contact the Malaise Law Firm to be advised by a knowledgeable San Antonio bankruptcy lawyer.
